As I read Luke 13:22-35 I see Jesus preaching a stern word to the people. Their response was "depart from here or Herod is going to kill you". Their reason for saying this was not for concern for his life. They hated the message he was preaching. It was a message that pointed out their iniquity. The message convicted them of their present condition. Instead of responding with sorrow and repentance they said to him: "get out of here or Herod will kill you". I love how Jesus answered them. He said: "you go tell that fox (Herod)... I'm casting out devils today, I'm healing sick folk tomorrow and tell him on the third day I'm going to finish what I started or I shall be perfected.
Jesus was saying to thosee people and is still saying it today: "What I am doing cannot be stopped by man or any other power. Until i cry it is finished nothing will stop what has begun in me." I read in the paper this week some disturbing news. The democratic party has attached the hate speech bill as a rider on the bill that provides for military needs. Everyone knows that America must fund it's military. This is a ploy of great deception. And as if on cue the liberal news media stepped up to defnd the action. Their response to the concern of churches, preachers and parents was this: It will not affect the clergy who preaches against homosexuality and lesbian lifestyle. This bill is only aimed at those who do acts of violence against them.
I see a parallel to what Jesus was facing in his day. We are facing that same opposition. They attempted to silence Jesus as he preached messages that spoke openily of their sins. Today they say to the church... "don't tell us we are wrong." If you do we will punish you and silence you with the law and call it "hate speech". It is time to wake up and understand that Satan is attempting to silence the church with the law. We must take the same position and action that Jesus did standing in the power of the Spirit, holding forth the word of truth. It is time to call sin - sin. Call black - black and white - white. There is no gray area. If the Bible says it is sin then guess what - it is sin. If Jesus judged it then he still judges it today. God loves the sinner but hates the sin. Come on sinner! There is still hope for everyone who will run to Jesus. Lay your sin down at His feet. There is forgiveness for you today at the cross.
We need to stand up and say our elected officials... "you say to them foxes we see what you are trying to do. It won't work. You can change the law but you can't stop the truth of the Word of God. You cannot silence the real servant of God. It is time for the church to answer the question: "do we obey men or God?" My response is: I will obey God." I will continue to hold up the blood stained banner of truth and say to all who oppose God's truth... "be very careful for the place where you stand is certainly uncertain".
